Description

Best Friends Forever is a page-turner of a read, delving into the often fraught world of female friendships and the wreckage left behind when they implode. Her characters are, for the most part, engaging and either likeable heroes and supporting characters or detestable villains. But props to the author for making it a short and fast read, I didn't really enjoy it but it was still readable. From the bestselling author of If Only I Could Tell You comes the story of two women feeling trapped and powerless.

There was never a time when I was at ease with this book and there was always a sense of dread with no comic relief. First of all, I read a book about teenage girls, then, I actually stuck with it and finished it, and third, I liked it. What originally draws her to Shoreham, Florida, are the salt air, quiet walks on the beach, and the glorious sunrises over the ocean.

Willie reunites with three old friends: Mo is a successful family man, while Paul and Tommy, who own a snowplowing business, are each having relationship issues. What I mean by that is, everything was happening very rapidly with hardly any time to build any attachment or interest in the characters. Willie says his goodbyes the next day, having decided to head back to New York with Tracy and not take the sales job. For what may be the first time in her life, Kate Turner has made an almost-impulsive choice: to move with her teenage daughter, Alex, from Buffalo to a new home in Shoreham, Florida.

And she has interesting things to say about parenting, high school culture, bullying, the changing role of women, friendship, loyalty, and self-delusion. You will m You will hopefully cringe at the unnecessary fatphobic comments that added absolutely no value to the story itself. And let's not forget the book was supposed to be a thriller but there was nothing thrilling about it, no shocking plot twists. This show isn’t about finer subtleties: a metaphor about paper and paper clips is ditched mid-scene because we all know what’s going on under the surface.

A death introduced early in the book is clearly linked to the bullying, and it seems only a matter of time before Alex is either offed or held responsible when someone else is. Her first few chapters leave us with doubts as to Kate’s wisdom and even her commitment to her daughter. I was pretty confident this would be a three star read until the last chapter and the way it ended makes me want to bump it up a half star.

Settling into their new home, Kate makes nice with a clique of moms with daughters at Alex’s school and feels like she may be fitting in, with a potentially closer relationship with chef Joe Miller. However, the points wouldn’t need to keep being reasserted if it weren’t for the stagnant societal view towards gender equality. That fresh start brings with it some “lovely girls” who really aren’t so lovely after all, neither to Alex nor to Kate.

You could tell they were best friends, but they all had stuff amongst them that was personal to each one of them". She hasn’t been herself since her dad’s death in a car accident when she was driving, and her biggest relief is her longtime love of tennis.

Snow plows were coming by, and I was just tired of writing these movies with people getting shot and killed.Though Kate is warned off on hanging with the women, she does anyway because she misses having friends and someone to talk to. Likely no- the show’s light and fun-loving, it’s a piece that portrays men as beefy idiots whilst referencing their more dangerous potential because Lovely Girls isn’t the platform for something darker. Alex wants to keep her head down but can’t help but goad Daphne, who’s at the top of the food chain.
