He also made appearances on The Jonathan Ross Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America, The View, Australian Idol, and That's My Jam. I said to my team, I wish I had new music to put out on the quick side for all of my beautiful fans and the idea for a covers album felt like we could get that done quicker. Baltin: Were there things about some of these songs that pleasantly surprised you when you got into singing them?

Few have the power and range of Lambert's vocals, as evidenced by his recruitment to front Queen, a role he's tackled with poise. And then watching the show the other night, I'm just excited for all the queer representation that we're having right now. Despite a title that suggests a zany rom-com, He Went That Way actually aims its dainty pistol at simmering neo-noir territory, but the action fizzles rather than thrills. In the case of Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World,” things shift entirely in the opposite direction, transforming the song into a piano ballad. Signature tracks from the original artists like Chandelier, West Coast and Sex On Fire come to life this time in a very singular aesthetic, and it screams Adam's song and not cover.also saw Lambert join Queen for a sold-out European tour including ten shows at London’s The 02 Arena. In the last act of High Drama the artists are fully connected in song, evident in "Mad About The Boy. High Drama works best in those moments where Lambert manages to make a cover feel like it belongs to him as much as to the original artist. Ordinary World" goes back to the well of his "Mad World" breakthrough on American Idol, finding the deeper pathos in the brittle songwriting of the 80s.

Even when I was doing American Idol, thinking of ways to bring a fresh slant on really well-known songs was always paramount in my mind. When I was a teenager, for example, before I came out, when I was kind of coming to terms with my sexuality, I was watching Will and Grace, and loving it and watching it like with the whole family, and we were all laughing, all having a good time.

Two more standout tracks are the atmospheric take on Duran Duran's 'Ordinary World', and a gloriously camp, glam rock version of Bonnie Tyler's 'Holding Out for a Hero'. As Lambert sings, "History, it pains me, and it chains me / 'Cause I'm mad about the boy," champions of freedom and acceptance become one, timeless – the best thing about good covers.

Over the past decade, I've explored a few different areas and sounds and energies, and I feel like part of this new chapter in my career is me being really clear on who I am, and what I am, and what I'm not. Billie Eilish’s “Getting Older” opens with a Queen-esque harmonized vocal before shifting to a rock ballad. Adam once again proved that his I was a skeptic, but this album blew me away, some covers took my breath away in the best sense of the word.

Lambert isn’t trying to outdo the originals on High Drama, but rather take them to a different place. While we absolutely need someone to bring us glam rock stump and queer dance pop, Lambert's once in a generation voice is capable of so much more.

And, with "Mad About the Boy," Lamber turns a little song about a boy into a soaring Bond-theme ballad that never abandons its core of vulnerability. And having been in the recording industry for 13, 14 years, I now know more than ever exactly who I am and what I'm about and what my brand is, and what my sound is, and who my fans are.For me, it’s been really challenging to twist these songs into completely different arrangements and make them sound brand new. The book she's writing happens to be the nonfiction best-seller that inspired this film: Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent, by Isabel Wilkerson. A showman with stellar performance skills, there are few performers with a vocal range like Adam Lambert and it’s clear he knows his instrument well and has expertly mastered the tracks on ‘High Drama’ to really make them his own and has once again showcased his astonishing vocal prowess with this energetic, vivid and mesmerising collection of songs. Songs range from the more recent, Pink's 'My Attic', Billie Eilish's 'Getting Older', an epic rock re-imagining of Lana Del Rey's 'West Coast', to the beautiful interpretation of Noel Coward's classic 'Mad About The Boy'.
