It explains the background of the story and how they went on to find the Chateau of their dreams and went about restoring it. At the halfway point, it is fair to say the Strawbridge’s might be a little too focused on the food aspects of France (and you can’t blame them), Thankfully, the aspects of the chateau eventually come back to the forefront and their journey continues. I personally would've liked more focus on the specifics of doing up the chateau, but it was very enjoyable nonetheless. Last time we sat inside and the glow from the red lights as the evening descended was really rather magical. Now there will be a lot of women - and men come to that - nodding their heads and thinking “yeah, I wouldn’t know what to do in that situation either”.

As warm and entertaining as their much-loved show, A Year at the Chateauis a truly irresistible story of adventure and heart, epic ambitions and a huge amount of hard graft. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Born in Burma, but raised and educated in Northern Ireland, Dick Strawbridge retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2001 before becoming a full-time television presenter and author (with arguably the best moustache in showbusiness). Yes, there were a few minor editing mistakes but this all added to the quirky nature that many of us have come to know and love.

Irreverent, witty and emotionally charged, Long's rollercoaster ride zones in with exquisite precision and perception on the dreams, despairs and dilemmas of all middle-aged women getting ready to say a final goodbye to their youth and looking forward to new beginnings. The different personalities are well drawn but I would say my favourite was probably designer Leo, the King of Style. A lot of the photos seem to focus on the couples wedding, even though it was beautiful and it is a focus on their business, I felt the readers probably wanted to see the progress of each of the rooms that were spoken about instead. There are some delightful secondary characters, especially the last chatelaine who always brings a smile to your face. I liked hearing from both Dick and Angel, neatly signalled by whether the text was emboldened or not, although there were quite a few typos and bad edits of sentences that had only been half-rewritten.I've read the book, learnt a lot about owning a château and enjoyed hearing about their story from two different view points. As warm and entertaining as their much-loved show, A Year at the Chateau is a truly irresistible story of adventure and heart, epic ambitions and a huge amount of hard graft. Angel’s lack of knowledge in certain DIY procedures and terms are entertaining, heartwarming and endearing and I can imagine it allows a lot of people out there to relate on some level.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. A lovely dose of the Escape to the Chateau tv show in book form - just a nice, unchallenging, comfort read to inspire good food and splashing out on the quirky little details in life. If you really want to watch and experience nice people restoring a chateau I suggest going on YouTube and watching “The Chateau diaries” and “Doing it ourselves” both are likeable and kind to the people around them, oh and the focus is less on themselves and more on the chateau. She also has a tendency to not credit her artists on later seasons of the show and on the Château's social media accounts, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth. In 2015 they bought a derelict château in the Loire valley and became the subjects of the hugely popular Channel 4 hit Escape to the Château.Seemed to me that it was a recipe for broken friendships and general disaster but it worked and it was fun to read. And not from a script but Angel and Dicks own opinions on how work and life progressed on the move and building work.

As warm and entertaining as their much\-loved show, A Year at the Château is a truly irresistible story of adventure and heart, epic ambitions and a huge amount of hard graft. The book itself is wonderfully written, with witty anecdotes, fabulous recountings of this remarkable renovation, and the surprising addition of Dick describing his cooking (which sounds beyond amazing to me) it was the icing on the cake and now I want to try mussels. The book tells the story of their first year at the chateau, with all the trials, tribulations and challenges they faced. Like many couples, Dick and Angel had long dreamed of living in France, but where others might settle for a modest bolthole in the French countryside, the Strawbridges fell in love with a 19th-century fairytale château, complete with 45 rooms, seven outbuildings, 12 acres of land and its own moat.
