Description

This card reader sports the classic combo of SD and CompactFlash slots, both being the fastest of their type - UHS-II, and UDMA 7. You can use both simultaneously, and the case’s design means a card of each type can be stored inside the reader, protected by a hinged rubber door that closes around them. On the one hand these figures are hugely impressive results that eclipse any other memory card we've ever tested. However, aside from the 1678MB/s theoretical read speed score we achieved, which comes very close to the 1700MB/s claimed by Sandisk, in every other respect our CFexpress card didn't reach its claimed maximum speeds.

When combined with a CFexpress Type A card, the Sony MRW-G2 CFexpress Type A/SD Memory Card Reader allows users to transfer data approximately 2.8 times faster than with conventional media. This makes it an ideal choice for professional photographers and videographers who require fast and efficient storage solutions to keep up with the increasing demand for high-quality, high-resolution images and videos. The reader can be used with CFexpress Type A and SDXC/SDHC (UHS-I and UHS-II) memory cards.

Product Sheet

CFexpress card readers aren’t all that common, or in this case, cheap. Doubly frustrating, as Sony doesn't even include an SD slot to at least give you a little extra versatility (XQD compatibility is included, though that's due to XQD cards being physically interchangeable with CFexpress Type B). Here are our top recommended & fastest CFexpress Type B card readers and CFexpress Type A card readers in 2023: CFexpress Type B Card Readers: In summary, the Lexar Professional CFexpress Type A & SD Dual-Slot USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C Card Reader is a versatile, compact, and durable card reader that supports high-speed data transfers for creative professionals on the go. Its support for both CFexpress Type A and SD media cards, along with its stylish and durable design, make it an excellent choice for photographers and videographers who need a reliable card reader for their workflow. One of the most notable features of this reader is its high-speed data transfer capabilities. With a 10 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C interface, the ProGrade Digital CFexpress Type B & UHS-II SDXC Dual-Slot Card Reader can deliver transfer speeds of up to 1.25 GB/s, or 1250 MB/s. This means that users can transfer large files, such as 4K video footage, in a matter of seconds, significantly reducing the time required to offload data. The Sony MRW-G1 CFexpress Type B/XQD Memory Card Reader also comes with both USB Type-C to Type-C and USB Type-C to Type-A cables, making it compatible with a wide range of devices. This is particularly useful for those who work with a variety of different computers and devices and need a card reader that can work with all of them.

At least the USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) interface is speedy, equating to a maximum transfer speed of 1250 megabytes per second. However, even this is still some way short of the 1700+MB/s read speed that the best CFexpress cards can manage. even this can't let the fastest CFexpress Type B cards run at max speed. 5 things to look for in a card reader The RDE2 card reader is equipped with a CFexpress Type B card slot, which is a popular type of card used in professional cameras. It is worth noting that this card reader is not compatible with XQD memory cards. The Transcend RDE2 is bus powered which means that it requires no separate power adapter and is constructed of a strong aluminum grey matte exterior with a semi-clear silicon skin for protection. The Exascend CFexpress Type A / SD Express Card Reader is also designed for convenience. With its dual-slot design, users can easily move files between different camera systems without the need for multiple card readers. The reader is compatible with SDXC/SDHC/SDUC/SD cards, ensuring that it can work with a wide range of devices. Overall, the Lexar Professional CFexpress Type B USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Reader is an excellent choice for professional photographers and videographers who need a compact, portable, and reliable card reader for their CFexpress Type B cards. Its fast transfer speeds, versatile connectivity, and durable design make it a great investment for those who demand the best performance from their equipment. But this may well be no fault of the card, or indeed Sandisk's marketing department. While the physical hardware of CFexpress is doubtless capable of such stunning performance, other limiting factors inevitably come into play. A computer's operating system, the type, size and quantity of files being transferred, the connection between card and computer, and finally the computer's internal mass storage device ( SSD or HDD) will all play a part in determining the maximum file transfer speed you can achieve. The ProGrade Digital CFexpress Type B & UHS-II SDXC Dual-Slot Card Reader also comes with two different cables, a USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to Type-A cable, making it compatible with a wide range of devices. Additionally, the included metal mounting plate allows for secure attachment to a desktop or laptop, further enhancing the reader’s stability.

Speed wise, we could only extract a max video read speed of 223MB/s and 198MB/s write rate from our UHS-II SD card - not awful, but some way shot of some other readers we've tested. Image transfer performance is worse still, with 152MB/s read and 98MB/s write speeds being slower than average. To ensure that the card reader remains cool during extended use, it features multiple heat sinks. For easy system connectivity, the Delkin Devices CFexpress Type B and UHS-II SD Memory Card Reader comes with USB Type-C to Type-C and Type-C to Type-A cables. Note that XQD, CFast 2.0, and CompactFlash memory cards are not compatible with this memory card reader. It comes with a Type-C to Type-C cable, as well as a Type-C to Type-A cable for maximum compatibility, and it has the CF Express Type B port on the bottom with a Type-C connector on top. The Sony MRW-G2 CFexpress Type A/SD Memory Card Reader is a high-speed memory card reader that is built to an exceptional standard. It is specifically designed to work with CFexpress Type A memory cards as well as SD/SDHC/SDXC card types, and facilitates fast file transfers up to 10 Gb/s. This makes it ideal for professional photographers and videographers who require fast and efficient storage solutions to keep up with the increasing demand for high-quality, high-resolution images and videos. The Transcend RDE2 CFexpress Type B Card Reader is a high-performance card reader designed for professional use, such as photographic and cinematic applications. This card reader has a sleek and durable design, making it a great choice for professionals who are always on the go.At 3″ x 2″ x 1/2″, the Transcend CF Express Type B RDE2 Card Reader is also the smallest on the market. We had a bit of concern with that at first, as CF Express Type B cards are known to put off quite a bit of heat… at least the earlier versions were. We tested the RDE2 with an early card and did a sustained write test where the temperature of the card got up to 80°C. The exterior of the RDE2 did get a bit warm but the silicon casing absorbed that heat as well so there was no discomfort or concern whatsoever. The Transcend RDE2 CFexpress Type B Card Reader has an aluminum body and a non-slip silicone cover, making it wear and scratch-resistant. The card reader is also heat-resistant, making it durable enough to withstand harsh environments. Additionally, the compact size and portability of this card reader make it easy to carry with you wherever you go. The 90cm USB Type-A lead is hardwired to the reader, so while you won’t lose it, it can be slightly awkward for transportation, and you’ll need an adapter to connect this reader to a laptop like the current MacBook Pro.

Overall, the ProGrade Digital CFexpress Type B & UHS-II SDXC Dual-Slot Card Reader is a high-performance and convenient card reader that is ideal for those who frequently work with large files and need a reliable and efficient way to transfer data. With its high-speed data transfer capabilities, convenient features, and included accessories, this card reader is a solid choice for professionals and enthusiasts alike. In addition to its high-speed transfer capabilities, this card reader also includes several convenient features. An LED indicator light on the front of the reader lets users know when a transfer is in progress, while the magnetized bottom allows for easy and secure attachment to a computer. This is particularly useful for those who frequently work on the go and need a stable, reliable card reader that can be easily transported from one location to another. Data Transfer Rate Capability of up to 40Gbps Allows Users of CFexpress Type B Devices to Triple Their Current Workflow Performance Many card readers now connect to your computer using a USB-C plug, but adapters are readily available to convert to normal USB.
